Thoughts from Florida

[Post New]by Love_rnr on Sep 6, 17 8:00 AM
I am keeping all my friends and other MC players in Florida in my thoughts and prayers. Hope everyone is taking all the necessary precautions and stays safe! South Florida will get the worst effects, I just hope it weakens significantly before it hits. Now that it has turned more easterly, my area in southwest should not get the flooding we were afraid of (I live on the water). I retired from a water management agency and saw the devastating effects of Andrew and Charlie.

I'm also keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers. I have MC friends and real life friends in Florida.

Thank you, Paula, for starting this thread!

Many MC players may be in the path of Irma. Whichever direction the hurricane may take.

To ALL of you that will be or may be impacted by this storm. Sending you all our Prayers, Thoughts, and concern for your health and safety.

PLEASE...

When the storm passes report back in the forum that you are ok as soon as you are able. We will all be worried enough about your health and safety.

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. I echo the thoughts and prayers
for those in Florida and anywhere in the path of that nasty
Irma! Those of us up the coast are nervously waiting to see
just how far that old girl will go. Mathew gave us a run for
our money just last October but he was a much smaller storm!

Harvey was bad enough for Texas ..... but Irma is a totally different level of bad for Florida...... Sure hoping those in Florida and Puerto Rico stay safe!

To our friends in the path of Irma...

Be safe, be strong and be prepared. I am sure, like so many others, we are watching Irma closely with our loved ones in our hearts and on our minds. Please keep us informed if and when you can.

Having worked catastrophic events from the Oklahoma F5 to Katrina. I see Irma as in a class by herself and I will be offering many prayers to those who encounter her.

Live 20 minuites off the Coast of Central Florida. Last October side swiped by a 3, lost power for four days. Prepping now for a more powerful Irma. Prayers for all our fellow Floridans and all who lay in her path. Stay safe.

Living in the center of the state of FL, we are not sure of just how Irma will impact us, either as a hurricane, or as a tropical storm force winds, depending on how she tracks. Some stations are hinting that the eye may rip straight up the center of the state, which will give us the greatest impact. At the very least we do expect to lose power, for how many days we won't know until it is over. To my friends, I play as Siren, ID #506181, I will be back online after the storm as soon as I can. Stay safe everyone, who is in the path of this massive storm.

I've just been watching the videos of Irma slamming the Leeward Islands - make no mistake - Irma is a MONSTER! They are estimating 90% of buildings destroyed. Puerto Rico is expecting to be without electricity for 4 - 6 MONTHS.

Irma is far more powerful than Harvey, & she's just getting started. Please, if you are anywhere near the path of this storm, do not underestimate it. Take every precaution & include your pets in your evacuation plans.

For those of us not in her path, keep an eye on businesses exploiting this disaster & report them. I saw Delta airlines raised their fares from Miami to Phoenix from $500 to over $3000!!! Price gouging in a crisis is illegal, not to mention morally bankrupt. I for one will NEVER fly Delta again!
Edited to add:
Just read Delta adjusted the fare for this one person after receiving a storm of criticism & blaming it on Expedia. Could be true.
But the real point is, it's not just Delta. It's United & American too.
Plus $10/gal gas & $99/case water. It's all price-gouging & it's illegal.

Kudos to JetBlue for immediately capping fares at $99!!!

Please stay safe, my friends. Angels to watch over you.

I live in southwest Florida, and survived Charlie in 2004, without power for 3 days on a barrier island. Have moved off the island, but still close by. Hopefully Irma will stay to the east of us, so won't have to worry about storm surge.

With my grandson who lives with me having just joined the Lee County EMT, you might know he has made sure we are supplied and ready. He will have to be "on call" starting Friday night, so it will be me, the dog and 4 cats at home. Unless the track changes drastically on Friday., in which case we have a spot with the emergency crew families.

I am praying for all those in the path of Irma, and those in the aftermath. I saw the devastation of Andrew, and it was heartbreaking.

I heard on the news that Comcast is making free wifi available to EVERY one in Florida... course, you have to be at one of their sites to take advantage of this.... My understanding is that you can find out where they will have this wifi available by going to their official Comcast site....

We have a lot of players in Florida and up the east coast... if it's at all possible, please check in as soon as you can....

This hurricane does indeed look "evil"... please stay safe...

HUGGGGGGGGGGSSSSSSSS and PRAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!

I just heard from our daughter, who lives in Sarasota. She said for a time it looked "really, really bad" for them, but at the time she emailed me, the storm had turned a little toward the northeast, and now they are just expecting a lot of rain and wind (they hope). They are worried about Central, South and East Coast Florida though.

She had to go to 4 gas stations today to get gas, and people are terrified, some acting not so nice. Also, stores are out or running out of water. They have reservations for Sat and Sun at a large hotel, and will leave their home if they feel unsafe at any time. Also said many people are leaving Florida, but there are really only 2 freeways out, and they are already massively backed up.

Our prayers are for everyone living in Florida and all along the hurricane path.

katiek

P.S. I'm worried about flooding. The resident alligators from the little lake her house sits on regularly sun themselves on the lawn in back of her house, and they aren't cute little ones like we feed on MC.

Again, prayers for ALL! Please be prepared and safe.

There are numerous stations in Hernando County out of gas. Water and canned goods are in short supply. Only a couple of places that have enough sand to bag. The interstate and major roads are very conjested which is making it hard for supply trucks to make their deliveries. Hard to find "D" batteries. People are not on their best behavior, which is sad.

Still praying for all that have been and will be in Irma's path.
