I'm stuck at the Spotsalvania(?) Courthouse and I CAN'T find the candle. I looked at tips and they have a candy cane listed instead of candle. I found the candy cane but it's not on my list. HELP!
Everyone else is right. The items are TINY! And the mini game is awful. I don't mind something challebging but this is a waste of time.
Wish I hadn't bought this one or the Nancy Drew game. I usually like their games bu these 2..ugh!

I think the fat candle is in the left bottom window (if I am thinking of the right location). I play Civil War a 2nd time and still didn't like it any better then the first time.

This game had the makings of a perfect hidden objects game,
good grapics nice history lesson story background.
but sadly here are the issues i have with it, most items are to small
to find they only give 3 clues for alot of stuff to find. you end up wasting
1 or 2 clues because you got to look way to hard to see where it is circling.
on some items you have to lower screen window and open again so you can select
certain objects in lower corners, trying to earn hints is annoying as you have to play
minesweeper and if you play in timed mode you will have to hustle.
I find myself playing for a hour or so and getting very frustrated.
A strain on the eyes for sure and nerves.

main point save your money!!!

*small items to find
*not enough hints many wasted
*have to open close screen for some items
*earning extra hints is pointless

Hi,I've been playing and puzzling for a year, before I found this forum. Thanks to scotcat for the tips.I tried the trial version of this but decided not to buy it as I couldn't click on objects at bottom of screen. Now I can. You guys are awesome.Still don't think I'll buy it though as I value my remaining eye-sight.

LOL, I brought this because I am a addict and try to play the impossible. My second problem with this game is that it is too short.

In my opinion, this has to be the most beautiful ho game I've ever seen. But, my disclaimer, is, that you probably have to be a civil war buff to really fall in love with it. Yes, the hidden objects are really tiny and I've had to 'mow the lawn' on more than one screen, which is extremely tedious and still had to use a hint. When i first used the hints I ended up throwing all 3 away because I couldn't see where they were. Dumb and dumber me! Anyway, figured it out. Have been trying to play it slowly and savor it but it aint gonna happen, it's just too good. Glad you folks are here.

Yes it is a great game, even though I have finished it, I still play a round or two just for fun.

Almost but not quite yet falling out of love with this little witch of a game! I have never had to 'mow the lawn' more than once to get a hidden object but am in the process of doing it now. Naturally, the last hint disappeared before I could see it. What a waste! Have never had such a hard time finding a knife. Usually such a simple thing. Oh, by the way, I'm at the Gettysburg site and the knife is the last thing to find before the (ugh) bonus round. Any help?

Scotcat ... you're so smart. I changed to window mode each time I couldn't click an item at the bottom of the screen. Never thought to "move up" the window so it would be a little higher in full screen mode. I ran into the same problem in another game -- can't remember which one. I'll remember your tip if it happen again. Thanks!! You're a doll as well as a fellow cat lover LOL.

Being a history fanatic, I really liked this game. My one and only complaint is the teeny tiny objects that are so difficult to locate. Even with my "cheaters" on and nose pressed to the monitor... dang near almost impossible to see some of the objects.

I was just checking some of the more recent game posts, and was glad to see this thread brought back up. I really liked this game when it first came out, but alot of the reviews I read elsewhere were negative. And since there have been alot of good games, this one just fell through the cracks. After reading all the postive comments (from fellow fish I know), I think I missed a good game. Next HO drought there is, I'll be picking this one up. Thanks everybody!

Well lucky you , but I can tell you I got this game with a free coupon and its's good because it's awfull ,objects are way too tiny , not enough hints and most of all I run on mac with mac OS 10.5.4 (leopard) and I'm stuck on 2nd level at Shiloh battle ,last yellow flower don't vanish when I click so I can't go further because I can't pass this level ans I'v been on lot of forums it's appears it won't run on mac too bad it looked like a good HO game

I run Vista with large screen. I agree there are several very small items but Madame Fate also had very small items. That didn't bother me. My problem was having an item at the very bottom of the screen that I couldn't click on. Once I learned the trick of fixing that issue, everything worked fine. I played through the first time but didn't really read much of the info. Second time through, took my time to read everything and looked at screens. I really enjoyed this game.

I just started playing this game this past Sunday and bought it with a free coupon after demoing it for an hour--couldn't wait to play it further. I agree there are problems with the objects disappearing and ESPECIALLY the hints not being seen!! It really irks me when I've used the hint and cannot see it. I've also tried the mini game to earn extra hints and cannot get it to work. Any help would be appreciated!!!

I am stuck in 1863 in two places: Gettysburg looking for the tire iron and Chattanooga, looking for the blasted horseshoe. Can anyone help with these?

I haven't tried reducing, moving and re-enlarging the screen, so I'll try that next time--thanks for the help!!

Overall I really like the game because of the history and decoding the letters and the battlesites are just kind of like walking on hallowed ground. I think it's a great way to learn a little more about the Civil War and enjoy learning about it. My brother-in-law is a history buff, ESPECIALLY Civil War so I'm going to recommend it to him and he loves a challenge as do I so I think he may enjoy it, too.
